Municipal Law

Members of our Firm have extensive experience representing local municipalities in a wide range of corporate matters including general drafting of contracts, contract negotiations, employee issues and labor negotiations. We have successfully represented various public entities in numerous employment-related issues, including matters involving the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the EEOC and Title VII. Members of our Firm also have provided legal advice to state and local governments in the area of procurement, and have experience in the areas of labor law, personnel compensation/benefits packages and intergovernmental relations. A sample of representative matters in which members of our Firm have successfully participated are as follows:

  • Separately negotiated and documented successor collective bargaining agreements between a municipality and its firefighters, its patrolmen, its telecommunication workers and its laborers.
     
  • Counseled and advised a municipality in respect to a petition for certification filed by municipal police officers holding the rank of sergeant.

  • Negotiated a ten-year healthcare agreement between a municipality having a population in excess of 500,000 and its retired firefighters.

  • Counseled a mid-sized state agency in dozens of employee-related disputes involving EEOC, Title VII and other discrimination claims.

  • Negotiated and drafted a complex redevelopment agreement between municipality and private developers to build a $135 million multi-use sports and entertainment facility.
