BBP Welcomes New Associates

Burke Burns & Pinelli, Ltd. is pleased to announce the addition of new associate attorneys Sarah A. Boeckman, Martin T. Burns and Matthew M. Showel.

Ms. Boeckman joins the firm after four years at the Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund, Inc., where she worked on corporate matters, real estate and title issues, governmental and regulatory affairs, and constituent marketing and support. At BBP, Ms. Boeckman concentrates her practice on both litigation and transactional matters, mainly in the areas of real estate, governmental affairs, municipal law and corporate law. Ms. Boeckman graduated from the University of Michigan (B.A., 2009) and the University of Wisconsin Law School (J.D. 2012). She is a member of the state bars of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Mr. Burns concentrates his practice in sports law, governmental affairs, municipal law, and corporate law. Additionally, he assists public sector clients on a wide range of compliance issues, including the Freedom of Information Act and the Open Meetings Act, and various other aspects of government administration. Mr. Burns graduated from the University of Notre Dame (B.A., 1988) and John Marshall Law School (J.D., magna cum laude, 2014). He also holds a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University (M.S.J., 1989). Prior to joining the firm as a law clerk in 2009, Mr. Burns spent 14 years as a staff writer for Sports Illustrated and its online platform, SI.com.

Mr. Showel focuses his practice on financial and securities law, and commercial litigation, representing clients on various matters including financial and securities disputes, contract disputes and eminent domain and administrative matters. Before joining BBP in October of 2014, he spent four years with a Chicago commercial law firm, where he gained extensive experience representing individuals and companies in securities, construction, financial, regulatory, employment and bankruptcy matters. Mr. Showel graduated from the University of Notre Dame (B.A., 2001) and Loyola University School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2009). Prior to attending law school, he worked as a trader and analyst in fixed income, equity and derivatives markets. Mr. Showel is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, and sits on the Auxiliary Board of the Big Shoulders Fund.
