Burke Burns & Pinelli, Ltd. partner Don Harmon has been elected President of the Illinois State Senate, accomplishing a long-held goal for the Oak Park native.
Harmon, in his fourth term as a State Senator, beat out Republican Minority Leader Bill Brady by a 37-12 vote along party lines last Sunday in Springfield to succeed the outgoing John Cullerton.
Harmon, 53, has served in the State Senate since 2003, rising to a series of leadership positions over the years, including Senate Pro Temp, Assistant Majority Leader and Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee. He also has served as a member of the Committees for Assignments, Environment, Executive, Executive Appointments, Redistricting, and Telecommunication and Technology.
Prior to joining BBP, Harmon practiced law at Mayer Brown. He resides in Oak Park with his wife Teri and their three children.
